Gabriela Garza clinics

On Tuesday, November 29th, 2022, all four of our orchestra classes had the privilege of working with Gabriela Garza, Conductor and Artistic Associate with Seattle Youth Symphony. Ms. Garza is Mexican-born and currently residing the Pacific Northwest, where she guest conducts professional orchestras in the region in addition to her work with youth orchestras.

During each clinic students performed for Ms. Garza who then generously shared her expertise and musical ideas with the class. Towards the end of each session students were able to ask her questions about life as a conductor – ranging from how one enters the profession, to the equity work ahead in the field. Concert Orchestra performed ‘Ghosts of Brandenburg’ by Richard Meyer, Sinfonia performed ‘Rhythm Dances’ and ‘Snowflake’ by Brian Balmages and Yukiko Nishimura respectively, and Chamber Orchestra performed Mozart’s Divertimento K. 135 and Josef Suk’s Serenade for Strings.

This year’s clinic was funded by the Bellevue High Orchestra Boosters via donations from our supporters.
